Sigur Rós
BACKGROUND
The Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavik has been active since 1994 with great international success. They are known for their euphoric melodies, falsetto vocals, and a language of their own.
The band has a long and humble history. Renting their studio was paid by repainting it in exchange, the singer is blind in one eye since birth, and they all grew up in working-class families of Iceland in the countryside.
Sigur Rós have also invented their own language as mentioned, as they don’t want to have to tie the lyrics to words that have meaning, says Jón Þór Birgisson (singer of Sigur Ros). The language is called Hopelandic.

RESULT
With experimental typography, the playful, euphoric, and floating feeling that Sigur Rós conveys through their music is reflected.
In the center of the cover we see an early-stage fetus, signaling the first sign of human life. Through the course of the book, we get to see the fetus, in this case Sigur Rós, from being ordinary young boys raised in Iceland’s countryside. We get to follow them through the book, to becoming the biggest happening in Icelandic music history.Like the logo, the design is playful, messy and hand-brushed. The letters are reversed in the wrong order, to show their unique way of creating music, and also to celebrate (and show) the album where they started singing in their made-up language. It gives the reversed letters a deeper symbolism for their way of singing and writing music.
Jonsi, the singer, has a unique story. Growing up in a country with a population of only about 300,000 being insecure about his sexualities, with little to no known acceptance of gay people and their rights. Jonsi fell in love with many of his best male friends which made life very complicated for him.
